Fast forward to December 2018, Brian would move out of his apartment and Athina would move out of her cousin’s house, and they moved in together renting a modern one-bedroom apartment in Woodland Hills. They learned so much about each other, but it never broke them. In fact, it brought them closer to each other. They were basically married without the official title. Going to Costco together, cooking together, taking walks together, hiking together and working out at the gym together. They finally had their own space together after talking about it for months. When the quarantine happened in March 2020, it felt like the final test because Athina’s job became work-from-home and Brian’s job was closed down for 2 months. Now, they were home together for every minute of every day. For some couples, this would have been daunting, but Athina and Brian cherished their time together. They learned a lot about each other during this time, and Brian proposed to Athina on August 23rd, 2020 (Brian’s birthday) at Big Pine Lakes in Mammoth Mountains. They went outdoor camping and spent a weekend exploring Mammoth Mountains and Yosemite National Park. Their families and friends were ecstatic when they heard the news and congratulated them and asked when the wedding was going to be. They didn’t know yet because the pandemic was still well-alive and it was hard to predict what 2021 and 2022 were going to look like.
So instead of a wedding, they bought a house in Santa Clarita before 2020 ended in December. They packed all their stuff in a Uhaul truck, and have been extremely happy with this decision. Brian finally got a backyard that he’s always dreamed about, and Athina got the big house that she’s always dreamed about. Now they can’t wait to complete the next chapter of their journey and get married in Mexico!
Athina & Brian
Back in April 2017, Athina made the tough life decision to move out of her parents’ house in Hayward, California and move in with her cousin who lived in Los Angeles. Her cousin, Chastity, and her husband, Bong, had an extra bedroom in their house and let her move in there. The problem was that Athina didn’t have any bed to sleep on, and that’s when she went shopping and ended up at Sit ‘n Sleep, where Brian works as a sales associate. The two instantly connected, and Brian tried to keep a straight face because he knew he was at work and had to remain professional. However, after a few email exchanges, the two started texting and ended up going on their first date at the Santa Monica Pier. It was a gloomy, cold day, but that didn’t matter much to them as they played carnival games, rode the ferris wheel, ate cotton candy, and had dinner at Ceremony Bar in Studio City. Brian would continue taking Athina on more dates on his days off and eventually would ask her to be his girlfriend in August 2017. A year later, they took their first international trip as a couple to the Bahamas to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. This trip really helped them solidify their relationship and it helped them grow closer to each other. They were in love with each other and were ready to take things to the next level!
